Job Description

Overview Manages the operation of a Walgreens Pharmacy. Provides pharmacy consulting services with empathy to patients regarding the effective usage of medications, awareness with drug interactions. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services. Responsible for ensuring the proper compounding, dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications within regulatory guidelines, company policies and procedures. Manages and ensures the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and identifies ways to increase pharmacy financials, inventory management and enhance patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and ensures team member engagement. Ensures the professional development and growth of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives. Responsibilities Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient complaints, helps respond to patients special needs in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience. Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including interpersonal habits that show care and Walgreens service traits. Monitors customer service provided by team members and offers reminders, training and encouragement. Develops plans for improvement. Connect with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services. Lead efforts on enhancing patient experience by increasing awareness on healthcare services offered through Walgreens (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, and clinical/wellness services such as immunizations and diagnostic testing), thereby promoting the shift of the pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal. Participates in events that reflect the communities served as requested by Healthcare Supervisor or District Manager. Supervises operation of pharmacy, including opening/closing, shift changes, task delegation and scheduling team members. Ensures execution of District Manager operational feedback. Supervises financial controls including register counts, cash handling, and bookkeeping responsibilities. Supervises merchandising and customer guidance on medication usage, side effects, interactions, and privacy considerations; refers to medical providers as needed. Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets and accurately dispenses prescribed medications when needed by workload. Complies with all company policies and procedures and ensures the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations and standards. Ensures the use of Good Faith Dispensing elements in accordance with state and federal laws for controlled substances where applicable. Analyzes inventory trends and supervises inventory management, including ordering, stocking, and reducing waste; oversees receiving, stocking, pricing, returning and transferring merchandise. Maintains knowledge of pharmacy IT systems to support patients and staff, and seeks ways to promote productivity. Ensures accurate processing of insurance claims and follows up with insurers and providers; participates in third-party audits as needed. Coordinates with medical providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions and allergies; suggests alternatives when appropriate. Performs clinical and wellness services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease state management and other healthcare services. Partners with centralized support for patient registration, exception resolution, and virtual product reviews per company procedures and guidelines. Maintains a clean and professional pharmacy environment and manages maintenance and emergencies. Prepares, maintains and submits required records and documentation to run the pharmacy business (e.g., operating statements, performance indicators, supervision notes, transfers). Manages team member performance, provides coaching, and supports career progression; hires/promotes/terminates as needed; addresses issues in collaboration with HR as appropriate. Ensures compliance with corporate policies and employment laws; maintains open communication with team members. Maintains current licensing/credentialing/certification required to provide clinical services. Basic Qualifications BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district. Certified Immunizer or willing to become one within 90 days of hire. 1 year of pharmacy experience in a retail setting including prescription filling and verification, records and legal compliance, operations, software and insurance systems. Experience with prescription dispensing and knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance laws.
